What We're Reading
FYI For Your Improvement™: A Guide for Development and Coaching. By Michael Lombardo and Robert Eichinger. Lominger (click for purchase information)
I've been working a project with a client and pulled out this book to check something and realized that it may be a book you don't have or even know about. Rather than review a 'new' resource I thought I would share this one this month. It was one of the best things I added to my library. My consulting colleagues Andrea Mayfield and Michelle Collins recommended it to me a few years ago and it's been well used ever since. Actually it was funny because they sent me an email telling me I should get "For your Improvement." It took several emails for me to clarify that was the name of the book, not their suggestion that I improve.
Lombardo and Eichinger are known for their fine work through their company Lominger. They created those little cards that are the Leadership Architect™ Competencies. I like this book even more because it is full of those idea starters we all need when we consider 'what do I do next.' In fact, I recommended one client buy this book for all their leaders and it was a big hit. Having spent over a year creating TrustTalk™, I can only imagine the time it took to create and continue to refine this book. So, don't be put off by the price. It is well worth the money.
It also takes a little time to understand how the book is structured. But as soon as you open it, you begin to realize what a treasure chest it is. It helps me check my thinking about what may be a potential remedy for typical leadership challenges. It's right up there with my other Top 10 Business books including Groupthink and Good to Great.
Everything DiSC® Management Profile Still on Sale!
I also want to say a bit more this month about the new Everything DiSC® Management Profile. from Inscape Publishing. The profile is new and, as I said last month, very practical in itself. It also has a companion program available to support it, the Everything DiSC Application Library on Management.
On one portable USB flash drive, Inscape has created six one-hour modules that you can use as is or customize to fit your needs. The modules cover:
Your DiSC Management Style,
Directing and Delegating to different styles,
Motivating Different Styles,
Developing Others, and
Working with your Manager.
Included are 30 video vignettes that demonstrate 'how to do it, say it' when working with other styles.
This is a very cost effective leadership program that supports how to create a workplace where understanding differences become the basis for innovation. It's fresh, easy to use and will engage your Gen X, Y and Z participants. The best way to check it out is to take the profile yourself. Order it and we'll send you an online link. As soon as you take it, you can print it out and see for yourself how useful it is. More
