We’ve been asked by many of our customers for periodic, no-nonsense emails with just-in-time information for managers and knowledge workers on how organizations work. This is our 44th issue and we hope you enjoy it. Past issues are available on our website.
What We're Reading
Calvin Can't Fly, by Jennifer Berne, Illustrated by Keith Bendis. Sterling, 2010.
Keith Bendis has illustrated some of our books and recently alerted us to his new book, a charming children's book about a bird that hasn't learned to fly because he's been too busy reading. Does it have greater meaning for our world of how organizations work? Probably but I won't stretch the metaphor too much. I like the idea of introducing you to the talents of the folks in our network. If you are going to buy a book for a child, buy Keith's and Jennifer's and enjoy Calvin's discovery of books and learning how to fly.
TED.com
What I watch when I have a few minutes is a video on TED.com. I was talking to some clients recently and surprised they didn't know about this website.
TED stands for technology, entertainment and design and was originally an annual invitation-only conference with 20-minute talks by a wide variety of people. The beautiful thing is that those talks are now on the web for you to enjoy. This is video worth watching because it is going to introduce you to something new in a succinct manner by an expert. Those videos are 'thin books' with sometimes-brilliant graphics. They are a great way to expand your world-view and update your knowledge in instant and entertaining formats.
363 For Leaders - Try It For Free!
Finally, I want to remind you that October is the last month to try Everything DiSC 363 For Leaders for free. This is the new 360 that Inscape Publishing introduced in May.
The 8 competencies it measures are up to date and the report gives the participant 3 recommended strategies based on rater's requests. It includes suggested developmental actions to take, saving you lots of prep time as a coach. It's a great deal for $150 but it's even better for free. More
